10.4.11 not responding alot

I have G4 mac 10.4.11, I have been clocking alot lately and force quit does not work sometimes. How can I fix this problem?
I've had this mac for 7 years and never had a problem until last 2 weeks!
Please help!!!

Have you tried disk First Aid in Disk Utilities, use your Mac OS X installation disc holding down the "C" key on start up disc utilities top right hand side drop down menu select your hard disc then first aid Verify/ Repair Disk & verify/Repair Disk Permissions, do both.
